Late night and overnight watering can cause diseases and allow for nocturnal insects to feed when looking for water and as with too light of a watering will cause plant damage to much water may cause the same damage especially in poorly drained soils

Morning garden watering is always better if possible (high humidity, less evaporation)

Avoid late evening and/or overnight garden watering

Make sure plants get a least 1 inch of water per week

Self Watering Planters – Less Work For Garden Beauty

Executive Summary by: Thomas Fyrd

Since the planter doesn’t actually create water, you will have to add water to it from time to time.

You can use the self watering garden containers for any type plant including vegetables, herbs, flowers, vines, annuals, perennials, small bushes or trees, etc. Any plant that could be grown in a regular container can be grown in the self watering variety.

The only difference between regular containers and self watering garden containers is that there is a built in reservoir. The wick ensures that a constant supply of water is getting to your plants.

Buying a self watering garden container can be expensive–running up to $50 or more for a single container. It is pretty easy to create a small self watering garden container, but can be more difficult to create large ones. You will no longer need to worry about watering your plants as often!
