Great Garden Maintenance Tips For Your Shed, Pond and Patio

Executive Summary by: Mike Ward

Garden Maintenance: The trick is to allocate a small amount of time on a regular basis – and your garden stays clean and inviting.

So here are my easy tips to maintain your patio, shed and pond:

  • The garden shed maintenance

Keep it easy to maintain by having a little cabinet for slug pellets, seeds, seed trays, etc.

  • The Pond maintenance

A well maintained pond is beautiful but a neglected one quickly spoils the look of a garden. To keep it looking good you must regularly clean the filter, get rid of algae and pesky weeds. The pH level has to be maintained at all times for healthy fish.

  • The Patio maintenance

A well-designed patio with tastefully placed plants or flowers makes your garden look astonishing. The patio is great for entertaining yet, if alone, you never feel lonely there. When wet, the wooden floor may get slippery if it has a flat surface. A stone patio needs regular tending to get rid of weeds and moss. If you find algae growing there, treatments are available to stop it.

Water Garden Maintenance – How to Water Your Garden

Executive Summary by: Wendy Pan

Maintaining your pond or backyard water garden is the least favorite of all water gardening activities.

If you keep your pond balanced ecologically, water garden maintenance is easy and rare. An eco-balanced pond has one bunch of submerged vegetation per square foot of pond surface, has at least 50% of the surface covered by floating plants for shade, has no more than one linear foot of fish per 25 square feet of pond surface area, only goldfish.

In doing your monthly water garden maintenance, remove all dead or dying plant material. If left to decompose, it can foul your water and kill your fish.

Often water lilies are planted in shallow and wide pots. Use a fish net or pond vacuum cleaner.

Remove any hoses from the pump and using your garden hose with a powerful nozzle, clean out the pump hoses.

Top off the pond if any water has evaporated.
